Anki automatically closing when trying to look up Uworld questions

I use the ā€œfind cards from Uworld testā€ add on and when I tried to use it today, after entering the question IDs, Anki would close automatically without bringing up the browse screen with cards associated with the IDs. Any suggestions?

A few things you can try to narrow this down:

  1. Check if it’s the add-on causing the crash

    • In Anki, go to Tools → Add-ons.
    • Disable ā€œFind Cards from UWorld Testā€ (and nothing else).
    • Restart Anki and confirm it opens normally.
    • Re‑enable just that add-on and try again with a single UWorld ID to see if it still closes.
  2. Update Anki + the add-on

    • Make sure you’re on a recent stable Anki version (Help → About Anki).
    • In Tools → Add-ons → Check for Updates, update any add-ons.
    • Some older add-ons crash on newer Anki versions (or vice versa), so this often fixes it.
  3. Check for add-on conflicts

    • In Tools → Add-ons, click ā€œToggle enabledā€ to disable all add-ons.
    • Re‑enable only ā€œFind Cards from UWorld Testā€.
    • If it now works, re‑enable your other add-ons one by one until you find which one triggers the crash.
  4. Look for an error message / log

    • Start Anki from the terminal/command prompt (if you’re comfortable doing that):
      • On Windows: run anki-console from the Start Menu if available, or run anki.exe from cmd.
      • On macOS: run anki from Terminal (if installed via standard package).
    • Trigger the crash and see if any Python error shows in the console; that can help identify whether it’s the UWorld add-on or another add-on.
  5. Test with a fresh profile

    • In Anki: File → Switch Profile → Add.
    • Create a new temporary profile, install only the AnkiHub add-on and the UWorld test finder add-on, and try again.
    • If it works there, the issue is likely specific to your main profile (another add-on, a corrupted config, etc.).
  6. If it still crashes

    • Let us know:
      • Your Anki version (Help → About Anki → Copy debug info).
      • Your OS (Windows/macOS/Linux).
      • The exact name/link of the UWorld add-on you’re using.
      • Whether you’re also using AnkiHub to manage those UWorld-related decks.

With that info, we can better tell if this is a compatibility problem between that UWorld add-on, your Anki version, and/or AnkiHub.

Hello, I would be happy to help.

I’m not familiar with this specific add-on, but if the issue only occurs when you use its features, it might be the cause. I recommend reaching out to the add-on’s creator.
