Anki Timing Settings for UWorld Filtered Deck
Hi there! I understand you’re having trouble with the timing settings in your UWorld filtered deck. This is actually expected behavior with filtered decks in Anki.
Why Your Timing Settings Aren’t Working
When you create a filtered deck in Anki (which is what you’re likely using for your UWorld incorrect cards), the cards maintain their original learning steps and scheduling from their home deck. The filtered deck doesn’t use its own learning steps but rather follows the settings from the original deck where the cards came from.
This is by design - filtered decks in Anki are primarily meant for temporary study without changing the underlying scheduling of cards.
How to Fix This
Here are a few options to address this:
Option 1: Change the settings in the original deck
- Go to the original deck where these UWorld cards are stored
- Click on the gear icon
to access deck options
- Modify the learning steps in the original deck’s settings
- Rebuild your filtered deck afterward
Option 2: Create a new regular deck instead
If you want complete control over the timing:
- Create a new regular (non-filtered) deck
- Move your UWorld incorrect cards to this deck
- Apply your desired timing settings to this new deck
Option 3: Use a filtered deck with custom scheduling
If you’re using the V3 scheduler in Anki (newest version), when creating a filtered deck:
- Check the “Reschedule cards based on my answers in this deck” option
- This will allow some customization of how cards are rescheduled
Additional Tips
- Filtered decks are great for temporary cramming but not ideal for long-term learning with custom intervals
- Consider using tags to mark your UWorld incorrect cards and then study them in their original deck if you want full control over scheduling
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions about working with your UWorld cards in Anki.
Hello,
Could you please send a screenshot of the deck settings? Both from the filtered deck and the main AnKing Step Deck.
Also, let me know what intervals you were expecting. That will help me better understand the issue and assist you more effectively!
