Ankihub text ai search

hi! I’m having trouble with ankihub text search only giving me 14 total cards found and selecting only 8. Even if I put in something as simple as ā€œaspirinā€ it remains the same. I’m on ankihub via my iPad.

Any help is appreciated!

This behavior is usually due to how Text AI Search on AnkiHub works on mobile, not a problem with your deck.

A few quick checks/steps to try on your iPad:

  1. Confirm you’re using AnkiHub Text AI Search (not Anki’s built‑in search)

    • Make sure you’re on the AnkiHub web app in Safari/Chrome (via app.ankihub.net) or the ā€œAnkiHubā€ section inside the add‑on, not just searching in Anki itself.
    • The AI search uses its own index and does not behave like a full-text search; it returns a limited number of ā€œmost relevantā€ cards.
  2. Check deck & filters in the search panel

    • In the AnkiHub Text AI Search panel, look for:
      • Deck/source selection – ensure the correct shared deck(s) are selected (e.g., AnKing Overhaul, etc.).
      • Status filters – uncheck filters like ā€œOnly new,ā€ ā€œOnly unsuspended,ā€ or ā€œOnly dueā€ if they’re applied.
    • It’s very common for a filter to cap you at a small number of cards (e.g., only a specific tag or only a certain subdeck).
  3. Try a different query and compare

    • Test a few terms:
      • ā€œaspirinā€, ā€œwarfarinā€, ā€œheadacheā€, ā€œbeta blockerā€
    • If you always get exactly ~14 found / 8 selectable, that strongly suggests a filter or result limit, not that there are only that many aspirin cards.
  4. Try on a desktop browser (if possible)

    • Log into AnkiHub on a computer at app.ankihub.net and run the same search.
    • If desktop shows many more results, then it’s likely an iPad or mobile UI bug.
  5. Hard refresh & sign out/in

    • On iPad:
      • Fully close the browser tab/app.
      • Clear cache for that site if you know how (or use a private window).
      • Log back into AnkiHub and try again.

If you’re willing, could you reply with:

  • A screenshot of the search panel showing:
    • Your query (ā€œaspirinā€)
    • Any filters/toggles visible
  • Whether you’re using Safari or Chrome on iPad
  • Whether the same issue happens on a computer browser

With that, we can narrow down whether this is:

  • A filter/setting issue we can walk you through fixing, or
  • A bug specific to iPad that we should report to the AnkiHub dev team.

Here is a screenshot of my results for ā€˜beta blocker’ — same numbers

Thanks for the screenshot—that helps a lot.

From what I can see:

  • You’re in the Flashcard Selector → Text AI Search screen
  • It’s consistently showing 14 found / 8 selected regardless of query (ā€œaspirinā€, ā€œbeta blockerā€, etc.)

That pattern suggests either:

  1. A UI/bug specific to mobile/tablet, or
  2. Some result cap that’s being hit on your account/device.

There are no obvious filters in your screenshot that would explain such a low fixed number, so this is likely not due to tags/decks/status filters.

A couple of quick tests (to help us confirm it’s a bug)

Could you try these and let us know the results?

  1. Test on a computer (if possible)

    • Go to https://app.ankihub.net on a desktop browser.
    • Open the same Flashcard Selector → Text AI Search.
    • Search ā€œbeta blockerā€ again.
    • Do you still get 14 / 8, or do you see more cards?
  2. Try a private window on iPad

    • Open Safari (or Chrome) in a Private/Incognito tab.
    • Log into AnkiHub again and run the same search.
    • Does it still show 14 / 8?
  3. Confirm the deck/source

    • In the left panel, under Decks (or Source), confirm which shared deck is selected (e.g. AnKing Overhaul).
    • Try toggling another deck (if available), then toggle back.

Next step: likely needs a bug report

If:

  • Desktop shows more than 14 found, or
  • Private window still shows exactly 14 / 8 on iPad,

then this is almost certainly an AnkiHub bug on iPad, not something you’re doing wrong.

Please reply with:

  • Whether desktop behaves differently
  • Browser you’re using on iPad (Safari vs Chrome)
  • Whether private/incognito made any difference

With that info, we can flag this for the AnkiHub dev team and link this topic as a repro case (your screenshot is already very helpful).

I tried on iPhone in a private browser and hit the anking deck explore button, so I believe it was just pulling from anking. Still no luck.

Hello,

I was able to reproduce this issue on my end. Thank you for reaching out. We are going to investigate it, and I will get back to you soon.

Right on! Thanks a ton!

In the meantime, so you can continue studying without any issues, you can use the study aids tab. It searches by tag and is even more precise for specific topics like specific medications. For example, you can find some pretty useful tags for beta-blockers.
