Can't import cards from txt file and can't log into Anki app

Hi Anki team, I have 2 issues that I currently have using Anki:

Firstly is importing the txt file into flashcards, the cards have been made and I see it when I press browse but not on the decks page so I am quite confused, when I close my laptop and the decks page, it does not save the cards.

Secondly is logging into my paid app on my phone and ipad, I have just resetted my password but can’t seem to get in when I enter the password and email. But when I do it on my laptop, I can sign in (is it because of my AnkiHub account?)

I am quite confused right now, assistance would be highly appreciated!

You’re running into two separate issues here—one is pure Anki, and one might involve account confusion. I’ll go through both and then mention how this relates to AnkiHub.

1. Cards visible in Browse but not on Decks page / not saving

If you can see the cards in Browse, they are in your collection; they’re just not appearing as reviewable cards on the Decks screen. Common causes:

a. They’re in a different deck than you expect

In Browse:

  1. Click one of the new cards.
  2. Look at the top-middle: you’ll see the Deck field.
  3. If it’s in a deck you don’t recognize, select the cards (Ctrl/Cmd+A if needed) → Cards > Change Deck and move them to the deck you want.

Then go back to the Decks screen and check again.

b. They’re filtered/suspended or not yet due

Still in Browse:

  1. On the left sidebar, click the deck you think they should be in.
  2. Look for:
    • Yellow pause icon = suspended cards.
    • Tag or search like is:new or prop:due=0.
  3. If cards are suspended, select them → right-click → Toggle Suspend.

Even if they don’t show a number on the deck for today, the cards are still saved; they just might not be due yet.

c. Concern that closing Anki “doesn’t save”

Anki saves automatically. If you see the cards in Browse after restarting Anki, they have been saved.
If they disappear completely after reopening Anki, something is wrong with your profile or collection file, and you may want to:

  • Confirm you always use the same Anki profile.
  • Avoid restoring a backup every time you open Anki.
  • Check under File → Switch Profile to ensure you’re in the expected profile.

2. Can’t log into the paid app on iPhone/iPad

This is about AnkiMobile / AnkiWeb accounts, not AnkiHub directly:

  • The paid iOS app (AnkiMobile) uses your AnkiWeb login.
  • AnkiHub is a separate service. Your AnkiHub email/password will not log you into AnkiWeb/AnkiMobile.

Please check:

  1. On your computer, open a browser and go to https://ankiweb.net.
  2. Log in with the email/password that work on your laptop’s Anki (under Tools → Preferences → Sync you can see which email is used).
  3. Confirm that the account that works in AnkiDesktop is indeed an AnkiWeb account.
  4. On your iPhone/iPad, open the Anki app:
    • Go to Settings → AnkiWeb account (or Sync).
    • Enter the same AnkiWeb email + password you just used on the website.
  5. Make sure there are no:
    • Leading/trailing spaces copied with the email/password.
    • Auto-capitalization of the first letter (common on iOS).
    • Wrong account (e.g., using your AnkiHub email here by mistake).

If you still can’t log in on mobile but can on the website:

  • Double-check you are using the App Store AnkiMobile app and not a different flashcard app with a similar name.
  • If needed, you may need to contact the official Anki support (https://help.ankiweb.net), since login issues there are outside of AnkiHub’s control.

How this relates to AnkiHub

  • AnkiHub works on top of your existing AnkiDeck + AnkiWeb setup.
  • Logging into AnkiHub does not log you into AnkiWeb or AnkiMobile; they remain separate accounts.
  • Fix your Anki/AnkiWeb login first; once that’s stable, you can connect your AnkiHub add-on to the same local Anki profile.

If you can, please reply with:

  • A screenshot of Browse showing one of the imported cards and its Deck field.
  • The exact error message (if any) when you try to log in on your iPhone/iPad.

That will make it easier to give you more precise next steps.

Hello, I’d be happy to help!

If you can import a text file and see the flashcards in the Browse window, they are in your Anki and will not be lost if you close the app. I recommend that, when importing, you click the button to view the cards in the browser and check exactly which deck they were added to.

I’d also mention that the cards might be suspended, though newly created cards usually aren’t suspended by default when imported from a text file. If you could share a few more screenshots and details about this, I’ll be happy to help you figure it out.

Here is how it works:

  1. You buy the AnkiHub subscription so you can download the AnKing Step Deck to your computer Anki.

  2. In Anki, click Sync with AnkiHub and enter the same credentials you use to log in to the ankihub.net website. (Based on what you told me, you have already finished this step.)

  3. When you click Sync and it asks for different credentials, it is asking for your AnkiWeb credentials. If you already have an AnkiWeb account, log in. If you do not have an AnkiWeb account, you can create one at ankiweb.net. This will allow you to back up your Anki collection to the cloud.

  4. Wait for your Anki collection to upload to AnkiWeb and for syncing to finish on your computer.

  5. On your iPhone/iPad, tap Sync and enter your AnkiWeb credentials, not the AnkiHub ones. Wait for everything to sync.

Note that your AnkiHub account is different from your AnkiWeb account. Visit the two websites below to make sure you have the correct login credentials for each:

AnkiWeb is the cloud backup service for Anki itself, while AnkiHub is used to download your deck and keep it up to date.
