Changed card format, don't know how to undo

Someone else was using my Anki and the card type changed to only show all the anki cards as Front and Back cards. The missing […] is gone. So is Extra, Lecture Notes, First Aid, basically all the sections are gone and only shows Front and Back. I’m guessing the card types changed. How do I reverse it back to how it was?

I’ll help you with restoring your card format that has been changed. Let me search for relevant information about this issue.

Hi Mahaali99,

It sounds like someone has changed the note type of your cards, causing you to lose important fields like Extra, Lecture Notes, First Aid, and cloze deletions (the missing […]).

Here’s how you can address this:

If you’re using AnkiHub

If these are AnkiHub cards, you can reset your local changes:

  1. Go to the browser in Anki
  2. Click on AnkiHub in the menu bar
  3. Select “Reset all local changes”
  4. Choose the deck you want to reset
  5. Click OK

This will restore your cards to their original format as they exist on AnkiHub.

If these are regular Anki cards

If you’re not using AnkiHub or if these are your own custom cards:

  1. First, check if you have a recent backup (File > Switch Profile > Open Backup)
  2. If no backup, you’ll need to change the note type back:
    • Select the affected cards in the browser
    • Right-click and choose “Change Note Type”
    • Select the original note type that had all your fields
    • Map the current fields to their correct positions in the original note type

Prevention for the future

To prevent this from happening again:

  • Create a backup of your collection regularly
  • Consider creating a separate user profile for others using your Anki

If you’re still having trouble, please provide more details about whether these are AnkiHub cards or your own custom cards, and I’ll be happy to provide more specific guidance.

Hello,

I would be happy to help.

You can convert note types as so:

Of, if it’s easier, you might also choose to restore from a backup (though this will erase some review progress, necessarily): How to Restore From Backup

Give that a shot, let me know how you fare, and we’ll go from there and hopefully we can get you squared away.
