Reading: Continous issue with “A network error occurred. Error details: error sending request for url ()” despite problem solving efforts
Thanks for posting this and for including the category description text.
To help you with the “A network error occurred. Error details: error sending request for url ()” issue in AnkiHub, we’ll need some more concrete details about what’s happening.
Please reply with:
-
When the error appears
- Is it when you:
- Log in to AnkiHub in the add-on?
- Sync a shared deck?
- Push/pull changes?
- Open the AnkiHub add-on window?
-
Your setup
- Operating system (Windows/macOS/Linux, version if you know it)
- Anki version (from Help → About Anki)
- AnkiHub add-on version (from Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub)
-
Screenshots / exact message
- A full screenshot of Anki showing the error dialog.
- If possible, copy the full error text from the “More info” or “Show details” area, if Anki shows one.
-
What you’ve already tried
Let us know which of these (if any) you’ve done so we don’t repeat steps:
- Restarted Anki and your computer
- Disabled VPN / company network / antivirus or firewall temporarily
- Tried on a different network (e.g., mobile hotspot vs. home Wi-Fi)
- Removed and reinstalled the AnkiHub add-on
- Logged out and back into AnkiHub within Anki
- Checked that you can open
https://app.ankihub.net in your browser
In the meantime, here are a few quick checks that often fix similar “network error” issues with AnkiHub:
-
Check basic connectivity
- Can you open both of these in your browser from the same computer?
https://community.ankihub.net
https://app.ankihub.net
- If either fails, it’s likely a network or firewall restriction.
-
Try another network
- If you’re on a school/work network, they sometimes block AnkiHub or its provider.
- Test from a home network or phone hotspot to see if the error disappears.
-
Check for conflicting add-ons
- In Anki: Tools → Add-ons → Toggle Off All Add-ons (restart Anki when prompted).
- Then enable only AnkiHub and test again.
- If it works, another add-on might be interfering.
-
Verify the Anki & AnkiHub versions
- Make sure Anki is reasonably up to date (2.1.60+ is generally recommended for current AnkiHub versions).
- In Tools → Add-ons, confirm you’re on the latest AnkiHub add-on; if unsure, remove it and reinstall from the official code on AnkiWeb.
Once you share the details above (especially the exact context of the error and a screenshot), I can give more targeted steps, or we can escalate it with precise diagnostics.
i just recently purchased core membership and attempting to sync the anking step deck. the error appears when i click “sync”
i am currently using macbook pro M1 max chip.
I have already tried:
-

-

-
Opened Anki holding the shift key to disable add ons
-

bothhttps://app.ankihub.net and https://community.ankihub.net opens and works fine in my browser (firefox)
Hello,
You are having issues when you click this sync button, right?

Please try accessing ankiweb.net (not ankihub.net).
If you do not have one yet, create an Anki account at ankiweb.net and try clicking the sync button again. If it keeps failing, it may be an issue with Anki itself, not AnkiHub.
You already pasted the error message here, but it would be extremely helpful if you sent a screenshot so we know exactly which error message we’re dealing with.
AnkiWeb is the cloud backup service for Anki, while AnkiHub is this current service, used to download your decks and keep them up to date.
Hi,
Yes, that is correct. I can access ankiweb.net in my browser without any issues. I have an anki account and have logged in with my anki account on both my macbook anki app as well as the anki web browser.
As of this moment, the error message did not pop up yet. This is because I am in the midst of switching and syncing (from anki web) my anki user profile (instead of logging out of Anki,) and it has been syncing the media for the past 30 minutes
(screenshot attached).
I am hoping this will proceed without problem. But if the error pops up again I will definitely send another screenshot.
In the past, this was the error message (image taken from online)
word for word.
Sincerely,
A Frustrated Anki User
Yes, the first big sync can take a while, especially because of the images. It’s normal for it to take a few hours, depending on your internet connection. You need to keep Anki open until it finishes.
It seems the issue is gone. Let me know if it happens again, but it appears to be an Anki error, not an AnkiHub one, so I recommend reaching out on the Anki forums if the issue persists: Anki - Anki Forums
Yes, it finally finished, unfortunately the same error message is showing up still.
I will try making a post there on the Anki Forums as well.
