How can I share Deck Description updates to all deck subscribers?

Hi AnkiHub team,

I maintain a community deck and recently designed a custom HTML dashboard for the Deck Description field to help guide new users (start guide, links, etc.).

I noticed that when I update the description on my end, it doesn’t automatically sync or appear for my existing subscribers.

Is there a mechanism to force-push the “Deck Description” field to all subscribers? I want to ensure everyone sees the new dashboard. Just like the one i can see on Anking deck.

Short answer: currently there’s no AnkiHub “force‑push” for the deck description the way there is for note content.

A few key points and workarounds:

  1. Deck Description is local in Anki

    • AnkiHub syncs notes, fields, tags, etc. that are in the shared note types.
    • The Deck Description on the deck screen is an Anki deck-level property and isn’t part of the note data AnkiHub manages, so updates there don’t automatically propagate to subscribers.
  2. How projects like AnKing handle this

    • What you see on large projects (like the AnKing deck) is usually:
      • A HTML “dashboard” note pinned to the top (e.g., via filtered/custom decks or tags) or
      • A card type that acts as a “Home” / “Start Here” card.
    • Because this is just another note, AnkiHub can push updates to it to all subscribers.
  3. Recommended workaround for your deck

    • Move your dashboard HTML from the Deck Description into one (or a few) special notes in the deck:
      • Create a note type/field for “Dashboard” content.
      • Add one or more “info” cards (e.g., “Start Here”, “FAQ”, “Links”) that display your dashboard.
    • Make that note easy to access for users:
      • Tag it something like dashboard or READ_ME_FIRST.
      • In your AnkiHub deck page, mention: “Search for tag dashboard / card ‘Start Here’ for setup instructions.”
    • Future changes to this note will then be pushed via AnkiHub like other updates.
  4. Communicating the change

    • You can post a short announcement in your deck’s AnkiHub comments telling users that:
      • The description dashboard has moved into a card inside the deck.
      • How to find it (tag name, card title, etc.).

If AnkiHub ever adds dedicated syncing for deck descriptions, it would likely be announced in the forum or changelog; right now, modeling your dashboard as one or more notes is the most reliable way to ensure all subscribers see updates.

okay thanks! how do i make a feature request to the devs for this?

You’re welcome!

To request this as a feature:

  1. Create a new topic in the 💡 Feature Requests category

    • Go to: Feature Requests
    • Click + New Topic.
    • Title example:

Sync / force-push Deck Description to all subscribers

    • In the post, include:
      • That you’re a maintainer of a community deck on AnkiHub.
      • You use a HTML “dashboard” in the Deck Description.
      • You’d like changes to the Deck Description to be syncable / force-pushable to all subscribers, similar to note updates.
      • Why this helps (onboarding new users, centralized instructions, etc.).
      • A screenshot (like in this thread) is very helpful.
  2. Link this support topic

    • Paste the URL of this thread in your feature request so the devs/mods can see prior context and discussion.
  3. Optional: tag & watch

    • Add any relevant tags if available (e.g., deck-maintainers, ui, sync if they exist).
    • Set the topic to Watching so you’re notified of follow‑ups.

If you’d like, I can help you draft the exact text for the feature request post.

I moved your post to the Feature Request category.
