Hello everyone,
In light of recent news that AnkiHub will no longer be offering the free scholarship program, we (the Maintainer team) have made the difficult decision to transition to a different card syncronisation hosting service (such as AnkiCollab) as soon as feasible for indefinite future hosting of the Malleus deck. This is devastating news given the great functionality of AnkiHub and our large userbase here. Although I appreciate there must have been legitimate fiscal concerns regarding the sustainability of the scholarship program, to make such a change (especially without community consultation) goes against the ethos of making learning accessible and free to all for which AnkiHub was supposedly set up for, especially those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds that cannot afford such a subscription. As someone who personally purchased a lifetime AnkiHub membership in the very early stages of AnkiHub’s formation (back when it was in beta stages well before public release) with the hope that it would go on to fund this scholarship program, I feel quite upset that this decision has been made. To continue to use AnkiHub despite this would go against the very foundational principles of our organisation, and we have said repeatedly in the event of such scholarship model changes that we would be unable in good conscience to continue using AnkiHub for our deck. I intend to keep to this promise.
At this stage, the Malleus deck will remain live on AnkiHub and continue to receive updates, and will likely run parallel with AnkiCollab, until a final decision is made by the Maintainer team on whether to phase out our AnkiHub syncing altogether.
Given this is still very new news, we still don’t have all the details ourselves, but will have more information to provide in coming months as the logistics of transitioning is ironed out properly. I should note we have our 2026 AGM coming up on September 22nd @ 6:30pm AEST and you can read more information on our FaceBook calendar invite here. Elections for 2027 positions are also now OPEN on our Google form here and will close on September 14, 2026 @ 12pm AEST.
Quarterly updates will move to an email sent out to registered members of Project Malleus from now onwards instead of through AnkiHub community. If you are not currently a member, you can register for free on our website here.
