Please select notes from only one ankihub deck at a time

I am making a supplemental deck for my university alongside an optional tag. The supplemental deck is meant to mainly fill in gaps in anatomy, histology, and radiology image occlusion cards that are good for anatomy exams.

I intend to have both decks use the same tag structure in the AnKing Optional Tags (i.e. I use the same optional tag labels on the supplemental deck, so our class can just unsuspend from one unified tag directory, even if it is two separate decks, instead of juggling two tag directories).

However, I am getting this error when I try to suggest cards to my own deck (not bulk suggesting optional tags to AnKing, those have been working fine).

I did see some similar forum questions, but I wasn’t sure if they pertained to this particular situation where I am trying to consolidate having two separate decks by using the same tag.w

Help would be appreciated.

Note that I am only bulk suggesting cards from my own deck.

That error is coming from a built‑in AnkiHub safeguard: a single suggestion action can only involve notes from one AnkiHub deck at a time. It’s not about tags or your local deck structure, but about which AnkiHub deck each note is subscribed to.

What’s likely happening:

  • Some of the notes you’re selecting are:
    • from the official AnKing Step Deck AnkiHub deck, and
    • others are from your new Ruby Supplemental Deck AnkiHub deck (or not subscribed / subscribed to a different one).
  • When you bulk‑suggest, AnkiHub sees multiple source decks mixed together and throws that message.

How to fix / work around it

  1. Filter your selection to one AnkiHub deck at a time

    In the Browser:

    • First, search only your supplemental deck, e.g.
      deck:"Ruby Supplemental Deck"
    • Then apply your tag filter (e.g. your anatomy optional tags) on top of that deck search.
    • Select those notes and run Suggest changes to AnkiHub.

If you later want to suggest changes to AnKing cards, do the same but with:
deck:"AnKing Step Deck" + your tags.

  2. Confirm which AnkiHub deck each note belongs to

Pick a few of the problem notes:

    • Open the note in the Browser and check the AnkiHub note ID / deck info (in the AnkiHub pane or the note’s “Info” window depending on your version).
    • Make sure the notes you’re selecting for a suggestion really all belong to your Ruby Supplemental Deck subscription.
  3. Keep using the same tag structure – that’s fine

Reusing the AnKing Optional Tags structure on your supplemental deck is okay and won’t itself cause this error. You just need to:

    • Suggest Ruby‑deck notes in one batch.
    • Suggest AnKing‑deck notes in a separate batch.
  4. If it still happens even when you’re sure they’re all from Ruby

    • Try selecting just a handful (5–10) notes from the Ruby Supplemental Deck and suggest again.
    • If even a tiny test batch fails, grab a screenshot of:
      • The Browser search bar,
      • The AnkiHub deck info for one of those notes,
and post it here. That will help determine if there’s a bug or a stray note subscribed to a different deck.

If you share exactly what search you’re using in the Browser before suggesting (copy the text from the search bar), I can help you tighten it so that only Ruby Supplemental notes are included.

Hello,

When you created your AnkiHub deck, you uploaded cards with the note type called AnKing Overhaul. AnkiHub associates the note type with your username, so the note type in your AnkiHub deck is named “AnKingOverhaul (*UW Ruby Deck / pya)”.

When creating an AnkiHub deck, you can only upload flashcards that share the same note type. I can’t see the note type name in your screenshot, but it looks like you are trying to suggest cards with different note types. Please make sure all notes use the “AnKingOverhaul (*UW Ruby Deck / pya)” note type.

If you’d like to use multiple note types in your AnkiHub deck, you can follow this tutorial to add a new note type to your deck:
