Tzanki Step 2 Deck - Some questions, I'm confused

Hello, I subbed to the tzanki step 2 deck recently. I had the anking deck subscribed previously, from before. Once sync was complete, i noticed:

• The two decks merge into a single anking deck when added? Is it supposed to be that way? If yes, that is hella annoying.
• Also, my tzanki deck shows 5000 cards while the ankihub page says it has 7000. (Screenshot 1)

• Also, do we not have subdecks/subtags for surgery? Cant i do surgery for a specific system?
• Plus only 200 cards for surgery. Is this right or am i missing something?

1. In the Browser, search:
   • deck:"Tzanki Step 2"
     Make sure the search bar is cleared of other filters (e.g., it should not say is:new or similar).

   • Subscribed to the correct Tzanki Step 2 deck on AnkiHub.
   • Synced in this order:
     1. AnkiHub add‑on: Sync
     2. Anki: Sync (cloud button in Anki)
3. Some cards may be:

For system‑specific surgery, most organization is done via tags, not separate decks.

1. Filter by deck:"Tzanki Step 2".

Syncing with anki hub “updated 533 cards of Tzanki Step 2” but i cant find it.

The number is still 5218 instead of 7000. Screenshots below:

In the Browser:

1. Clear the search bar completely.

2. Search for:

   ankihub_deck_name:"Tzanki Step 2"

3. If you see an “AnkiHub Deck” column in the Browser:

   • Sort by that column and look for entries that say Tzanki Step 2.
   • Click on that group and check the card count at the top.

Yep, that is normal. Due to the way that the underlying Anki software handles deck identification, and the fact that Tzanki and the AnKing Step deck share a lineage, it is the case that Anki will defer to preserving your existing organization rather than imposing a brand-new set place.

I can’t speak much to Tzanki, as I haven’t used that deck. Though you should be able to navigate down to tags, and check the AnKing Step tags there to see which cards are present from that deck in your collection

You can certainly study surgery, or any other topic you’d like, which is typically achieved using the tag system built into the deck

The AnKing Step deck does not have subdecks by default, as there is no single way in which to adequately organize subdecks for everyone’s use case (a card may have multiple tags, though can only be in one deck at a time).

I can’t say I’ve used Tzanki before, though from AnkiHub.net you can check the total number of cards listed as being present for any given deck:

Thank you for the assistance. However:

The dashboard says “7000 notes” for Tzanki, while i can only see 5218. Perhaps notes ≠ Cards?

Also, i have used anking previously and am aware they use tags to sort different topics. What i meant is, there’s no sub-tags for the tag “Surgery” + surgery only has 200 cards and no sub-tags , which feels slightly off to me. As if theres a mistake perhaps?

I still am not sure what im doing wrong, as i’ve previously set up anki hub and anki for anking and it was pretty smooth. Perhaps someone from the Tzanki deck team may help?

Perhaps notes ≠ Cards?

That is correct; notes and cards are not equivalent. They are related, but one note may span multiple cards and so the numbers will be roughly proportional but not 1:1

No mistake that I can see from what you’ve shared, though it depends a bit on what you’re looking at. From the image you shared it appears that you’re looking at the ‘Tzanki’ tags, which are not related to or contained within the AnKing Step deck

The AnKing Step deck certainly has tags that cover surgery, though, both in the topic sense as well as third-party and for Shelf exams

At least from what you’ve shared I don’t see that anything is wrong, really. Only that you’ve installed two decks that share a lineage and Anki has a particular way of handling that. But, there’s nothing ‘wrong’, per se

From there, I’m not aware of there being a Tzanki team, really. The original Tzanki deck is nearly 10 years old at this point and, while I’ve never used it myself, I’m not aware of there being a team that manages it in any active sense. Like most non-AnKing decks, it was initially shared online and received few, if any, updates over the years

But, the most honest answer is: with regards to Tzanki I’m just not sure. I’ve never had reason to use the deck and so I’m not familiar with it at all, I’m sorry to say
