QID is more specifically about Sydenham chorea - need to change to reflect that anti-GAS antibodies have mimicry effect on both heart and basal ganglia
I only put that info in the extra cuz GB has it there

I’m not saying info shouldn’t be there - just think it is worth adding that anti-GAS antibodies have mimicry effect on BOTH heart (rheumatic heart disease) and basal ganglia (sydenham chorea). So “Rheumatic fever: M protein (GAS virulence factor) causes antibody production that cross-reacts with both myosin in the heart (rheumatic heart disease) and surface gangliosides in the basal ganglia (Sydenham chorea)”

I agree that the ending in the extra should have “ heart (rheumatic heart disease) and surface gangliosides in the basal ganglia (Sydenham chorea)”
This will be especially useful for those who get to this card via the QID referenced
Think this might be better handled by clarifying on a card like nid:1503089369694 or nid:1503089543399 that deals w/ pathophys of rheumatic fever more directly; they imply this but neither of them directly call it molecular mimicry right now, which I think is an oversight.
Good point!
You think we should just add “molecular mimicry” to those?
Yeah, for nid:1503089543399
Currently it is this:
{{c1::Rheumatic fever}} is caused by cross-reactivity between {{c2::Streptococcus pyogenes (GAS)::bug}} antigens (M protein) and self-antigens
Self-antigens like the myosin found in cardiac muscle (esp. of the mitral valve)"
Change to something like this:
This should be instead or in addition to?
Instead, don’t think it needs to be added here since I think a lot of people will start doing this card after learning about GBS and not necessarily RF since it’s only really tagged for neuro/demyelinating diseases
agree with @Cameron this is very HY and deserves to be alone in my opinion
lets close off this discussion, thumbs up if you want to add rheumatic as well, thumbs down this comment if you want to keep as original
