If memory serves Schacter-Singer is not ordinal, i.e. it’s not:

Stimulus → ANS → cognitive appraisal → fear

But rather it is:

Stimulus → (ANS + cognitive appraisal) → fear

ANS and cognitive appraisal are not in sequential, subsequent, fashion by virtue of the theory. They are simply both co-requisites for the result of fear, and according to Singer occur together.

As for UWorld’s diagram:

They may be listed in an ordered fashion for visual representation (because of the constraints of illustration), though this is not meant to imply sequential ordering to their required presence according to the underlying theory. They could just as easily be visualized as being in the reverse ordering for all intents and purposes, to my understanding.

Good to know. Image looks good then. I only wonder if I should edit the Lazarus one to split the ANS and emotion into two boxes as done in the Cannon Bard theory instead of emotion (fear)/ANS

That’s up to you. Probably not keeping anyone up at night, but also wouldn’t do any harm to spruce it up
