Good point @Parker . Although, if agonist replaces epinephrine, the answer would be given away by the label in the image. This card is getting at what a common 1st messenger in a GPCR sequence is, which is stated in the Khan Academy link. I’ve edited the cloze to be framed as asking for this; while there could be other 1st messengers that also fit in as “common,” for the purposes of the MCAT, epinephrine is the most popular because of its association with fight/flight. With this said, the image would be more fitting in Extra since it doesn’t serve as a reference to what’s in the cloze like it originally did

Ok! I was thinking this card was getting more at, “What is a 1st messenger? Can you identify it?” with relation to the image, it is the agonist, and less that “epi is a common first messenger”. There are other cards that test 1st messengers, though they don’t say “1st messenger” like the taste receptors that use gpcr’s (id: 1590477395776). I think both work!

id: 1554128372504 gets at what a first messenger is!

The wording of the original note made me lean more towards identification. In the context of the MCAT, I can see how that might be helpful - if they were to ask which molecule in an image is a first messenger. We could have that as a new note suggestion. I have encountered instances where epinephrine is mentioned in the passage but explicitly referenced as the first messenger, so knowing that it is a common one could help make connections while reading through text
