@gmrshot Thank you for this suggestion! With the structure of the changes, it’s not as clear that stage 2 has theta waves as it was before. It’s clear what S & K in the mnemonic “BATS-SK-DB” stand for but the rest isn’t as clear (i.e., what “BATS” stands for). Comparing the before/after, the main piece of additional info is that stage 2 has sleep spindles & K complexes, which is very relevant in the context of this note. I’m thinking we can keep the original phrasing for Extra & add a line saying this one extra concept. Let me know your thoughts!

Hi so B=beta(awake),A=Alpha(drowsy), T=Theta, S&K, D=delta(Stages 3&4), B=Back to beta(REM/Awake)

I am also unsure about whether or Stage 2 includes theta but I think you are correct for the purposes of the MCAT it does. So lets keep the original wording with perhaps adding that stage 1 is theta only and Stage 2 is sleep spindle +theta +K complexes.
Ya, I think the pneumonic would be helpful in the extra section as an extra line.

Thank you for the clarification! I think we can stick to a mnemonic that focuses on the waves associated with each sleep stage. The main one I know of is BAT-D. The return to beta in REM is covered in the last sentence in Extra; we could have it in the mnemonic as “BAT-DB” but I think the written explanation for why it’s beta during REM (because it appears the same way as when someone is awake) is important for making a connection to the waves we see while someone is awake. Let me know your thoughts!

Sounds good!

I just submitted a suggestion & merged it into the deck. I’ve taken out the stage 1 & 2 + stage 3 & 4 breakdown written at the top of Extra since that info is summarized in the mnemonic. If you have any suggestions about the structure that we have now, feel free to let me know!

I took a look at it, I think it summarizes all of the information quite logically without redundancies. Looks good!
