AMBOSS agrees with this - infection with HPV is the most common cause of cervical cancer but most common cause of HPV is multiple sexual partners
https://next.amboss.com/us/article/ZO0ZIT?q=risk%20factor%20for%20cervical%20carcinoma#Y93c6d33626af4d077b9ab24562657322
could we add that to the extra?
i feel thatâs something that should be on the card to explain the change
Yeah. Thinking either we change text to say "What is the #1 risk factor for cervical carcinoma caused by HPV? and keep the original answer
Or change the answer and add a note to extra
IMO they arenât synonymous.
MMC â #1 Risk factor
but I would be okay with:
What is the #1 risk factor for HPV related cervical carcinoma?
{{c1::Multiple sexual partners}}
FA 2024 (pg. 663) does list multiple sex partners and HPV as separate risk factors
Have always found this card a bit silly but could never think of a good fix. I think what youâve suggested above will at least stop me from answering HPV every time this card comes up
The logic I use is that HPV is the #1 risk factor for cervical cancer, but Multiple sex partners is the #1 risk factor for HPV. So depending on the interepration of risk factor (i.e. behaviors, genetic predilection, etc.) both HPV and multiple partners are equally valid answers.
I think easiest fix is to just put âbehaviorâ or âbesides HPVâ in the cloze hint and mention that both have been listed as #1 list factors in the extra section.
I think it would be very cruel for someone to make a test question asking the top cause of cervical cancer and listing both risk factors in the answer choices.
Iâve submitted a separate suggestion (well, actually 2) to this card. As I stated in the comments on one of the other suggestions, itâs like having a card saying âwhat is the biggest risk factor for pneumocystis pneumoniaâ and the answer being âunprotected sexâ rather than âHIV/AIDSâ. Basically all cervical carcinoma is due to HPV.
