@mrvhyte there was an ongoing push in the Psychiatry world to reclassify mental health patients as being consumers of healthcare to be more patient centred, however this seems to have not been fully uptaken by the wider public, and understandably has led to more confusion than intended. https://psychiatryonline.org/doi/10.1176/appi.pn.2025.04.4.27#:~:text=Individuals%20seeking%20treatment%20from%20clinicians,patients%20or%20their%20professional%20colleagues. Note this latest report argues towards using “consumers” as preferred terminology; https://www.mentalhealthcommission.gov.au/lived-experience/consumer-and-carers/safety-and-quality-engagement-guidelines/mental-health-safety-and-quality-engagement-guide/appendices/appendix-1-language-used-in-the-guide. Happy to change it to what’s actually reflected in the legislation though, just thought I’d provide some context for why these cards were written like that.
