I had an AMBOSS question that specifically tested this question and had a great explanation about race = social construct and the historical racial bias in medicine. How this guideline is still in effect and a tested subject etc. etc.
Made me wonder if anyone suggested an edit regarding that and there is one open asking for it to be addressed.
Thoughts on this?
My medschool does PBL based curriculum and I remember race based differences were heavy topics. Another example I can think of is the anki card that says Black/African-Americans have lower risk of osteoporosis. That was a hot topic lol
Which is why I think it would be appropriate to address? (kind of like how amboss did)
Yes I support this change. We’ve gotten this suggestion regularly, and I think this gives enough context as to why we haven’t changed the text (since it is still tested).
Can you also add a screenshot or text from the AMBOSS question (somewhere here or on Slack) so we can reference it in the future if needed?
Agreed, if we’re gonna keep it in the deck it deserves a disclaimer like this and what AMBOSS has said; really well handled I think @IantheBFG.
To be fair, I don’t recall this scenario being tested in any of the 10s of NBME practice tests or real deals I’ve taken over the last few years (still got a few Step 2 NBMEs to go though)
I actually had this test on in-house exam during cardiology
