Consider possibly combining cards/concept with overarching theme of “neural tube defects.” Per Amboss and UTD, anencephaly is a type of neural tube defect with the same risk factors as all other types of NTDs. It’s important to recognize that anencephaly is a type of NTD, but I don’t think that there should be individual cards for every single type of NTD when they are all predisposed by the exact same risk factors. I.e. Have one card on NTD and the main associated risk factors, in this case folate deficiency and MDM, and then list all the types of NTDs in the extra section highlighting that spina bifida and anencephaly are the most common types.
“Several lines of evidence suggest a link between folic acid deficiency and the development of neural tube defects (NTDs) including anencephaly [28]. Risk factors for NTDs include dietary deficiency of folic acid; administration of valproate or folic acid antagonists such as trimethoprim, carbamazepine, phenytoin, and phenobarbital; and genetic polymorphisms in genes encoding folate-dependent enzymes. Other contributors to NTD risk that are probably not related to folate metabolism include maternal diabetes mellitus with poor glycemic control during the first trimester, hyperthermia, and some genetic syndromes” - UTD Shibboleth Authentication Request
