I don’t think portal HTN itself is an indication for TIPS. Rather, TIPS is indicated for “persistent, recurring, or treatment-resistant” portosytemic shunts (e.g., varices) (which are due to portal HTN)
This could be clarified (?) by changing the Text to:
“Persistent portosystemic shunts (e.g., esophageal varices) may be treated with…”
