Neither is wrong, here. An aldol necessarily having an alcohol group (hydroxyl) separated by a carbon atom. I think the original phrasing, as-is, is a bit easier to parse. The suggestion feels a bit more precise, perhaps, but at the expense of verboseness.

Notably, at least one primary source (Kaplan) states simply “a molecule that contains both aldehyde and alcohol functional groups”, which I think suffices here.
