not seeing where amboss specifically says this, seems like it actually wants surgery here, and card should actually say valve repair instead of replacement - comment from reference 33 “Mitral valve replacement is associated with higher rates of short- and long-term mortality than valve repair. Additionally, most mitral valve replacements are prosthetic rather than biological, because the lifespan of biological valves is short (∼ 10 years); therefore, they risk causing thromboembolism, endocarditis, and hemorrhage as a result of lifelong anticoagulation”
It’s under the treatment tab for MVP but I agree, repair appears to be preferred over replacement. I just wanted to add a note that valve repair or replacement is only performed for patients with severe mitral regurgitation. I’ll update the suggestion to highlight that valve repair is preferred.
