rear facing car seat = 0-2* or until outgrow car seat heigh/weight limits (can use until 4 years old)
forward facing car seat = 2-8
booster seat = after outgrowing the car seat and use until at least 4â9"
I tried to change this card recently but itâs directly tested on shelf based mostly on age.
Also âforward-facingâ is not talking about booster seats. Itâs talking about the car seat
rear-facing car seat â forward-facing car seat â booster seat â can use seat belt as normal (just not front passenger)
Yes, adding âforward-facingâ was a silly mistake, I fixed it
Regarding the age range, I still believe that stating 0-4 years is more accurate. you explained it correctly, but the current card doesnât explain it the way you did, so I canât assume that everyone reading it will understand it the same way
The AAP guidelines recommend rear-facing car seats for as long as possible (with a minimum of two years) (UW supports this, amboss says âat leastâ 2 years)
This card is part of a bulk suggestion to a few other cards as well, supported by the image that @beejumm created
Peds shelf exam my classmates had you had to pick forward-facing car seat purely on age and kid was 3/4 years old. I think there are uworld/amboss questions that test that, but then explanation will go into detail on âuse car seat as long as possible until child is past the manufacturer upper limitâ
Anyway I think leaving rear-facing as 0-2 is correct for test purposes and was recently changed to that July 2024.
Agree need to stay 0-2. Can put an asterisk and specify in the extra that children may surpass this age but still meet hight/weight requirement.
As a parent I can say from personal experience EVERY car seat has different hight and weight recommendations. 0-âabout 2â yo is very well know in the pediatric realm. (Also not really exam worthy context but IMO basically no one is leaving their kid in a rear facing car seat till theyâre 4yo.)
