@anking-maintainers 99% sure this is correct and needs to change ASAP
I’ve personally only seen it tested in context of Shigella (AMBOSS directly tested this for shigella), not sure if this would end up being more confusing. Has anyone seen it tested in the context of Salmonella?
Not tested in tagged UW QIDs
Agree
Would prefer a hint like “Not Salmonella” on the cloze here to keep it specific. I think cards like this in general people are exposed to through Sketchy or when learning about individual bugs elsewhere + we’ve got this tagged mainly for Shigella though there is the Salmonella vs Shigella tag in first aid
Think the hint is a great idea
looking at the chart in FA p142 “INFECTIOUS DOSE” is a good differentiating factor between the two. What if we used that to individualize the card? Possible option:
{{c2::Shigella spp.}} is a bacteria that in low doses invades {{c1::M cells }} of the Peyer’s patches
then in the extra we could add “Salmonella spp. also can invade this way but very high doses are required”
We can also do hint: “besides salmonella”
@AnKing-Maintainers
Seems like we were split on adding cloze for Salmonella or just doing a hint. Any ideas or should we bring to Slack?
I think adding to extra is sufficient unless there’s a question directly testing for salmonella
What about keeping it in the Text but not clozing it?
A viable option as well^
Like that, should make it clear what the cloze is asking for but doesn’t shift main focus
I’m okay with either (extra, or no cloze)
Looking into this more, UW has the explanation below. FA24 also differentiates Shigella by saying “Invasion of M cells is key to pathogenicity; infectious dose is low.”
I still feel like @Jwill original idea re: adding infectivity is the simplest way to differentiate
Okay with @Jwill’s idea

Let’s close this out, bumping for any last minute opinions but we are at 6 votes for this change by Jwill
The more I look at this, the less sure I am of what to do with it edited to add low-dose and it just looks weird/out-of-place to me. On top of that, newest version of Sketchy specifically mentions M-cell invasion for Salmonella as well, so clearly they think it is important to know that both do this. Also have nid:1500500286087 and nid:1510105661216 that focus on each of these bacteria individually.
FA24 and UWorld QID 1135 emphasize that invasion of M cells is key to pathogenicity of Shigella (not the case for Salmonella). This is discussed in nid:1523730961423.
I genuinely have no idea how to fix this without ultimately covering the same info that is covered elsewhere
