UW question refers to patient having PFTs before and after albuterol, but explanation says the following: “Diagnosis: confirm asthma or BHR (eg, methacholine bronchoprovocation) → confirm workplace-specific worsening of obstruction (eg, serial PEFR at home & work).” So, in theory, you could use either bronchoprovocation (methacholine) or bronchodilator responsiveness (albuterol) testing.
I am not sure if there is a good term that encompasses both, but either way, the AMBOSS link provided just says “confirm asthma with PFTs,” so I definitely would not change the cloze to just say spirometry.
Could change to just “PFTs,” but that is not accurate. Need an umbrella term for “either bronchoprovocation testing or bronchodilator response testing”
What about “Asthma testing (PFTs)” ? Then mention in extra that methacholine challenge can also be used for Asthma testing
Think it’s the same as asthma testing - Spirometry with PFTs is 1st line, methacholine challenge testing is used if normal PFTs are inconclusive
I’ll sit this one out. Probably sat out the occupational asthma class too…
