I dunno how I feel about this. Been at my computer too long; will circle back after meditating on it

The purpose of the oval window is to {{c1::transmit vibrations into the cochlea, causing fluid movement}} makes fluid movement sound secondary to transmitting vibrations imo rather than transmit vibrations to the cochlea through/via moving the fluid.

Yeah, agreed. I don’t love the phrasing. It’s not awful awful, and the original isn’t exactly art work.

I’m inclined to retain the original rather than push this one. If it’s 50/50 the onus lies with not changing things on a coin toss. This one isn’t without some good intention but it’s not making me see stars either

The purpose of the oval window is to {{c1::transmit vibrations from the middle ear by pushing fluid through the cochlea}}?

Somehow ā€˜pushing fluid’ still sounds weird to my ears, but maybe that’s the name of the game. UWorld doesn’t mention it at all, and Kaplan IIRC has some other phrasing that doesn’t really capture this well

It’s better than what we have, at least

The purpose of the oval window is to transmit vibrations from the middle ear, generating pressure waves in the fluid of the cochlea?

I read this completely out of context and was like "what is he talking about rn?

Man, there’s gotta be some formal phrasing for this somewhere. Like, we are not the first humans to have tackled the oddness of this phrase

Kaplan just says it’s the ā€œentrance to the inner ear.ā€ I haven’t checked KA yet

ā€˜Displace’. Displace is the word we want. So much less gross

ā€œThe purpose of the oval window is to transmit vibrations to the inner ear by displacing fluid in the cochlea.ā€

It’s not amazing, but we’re constrained by the existing sentence framing

Agree. I actually had that exact sentence as an option than I submitted another post under it and it literally disappeared. maybe I was editing that one unknowingly and it was just deleted Idk. But that sounds good to me.

Submitted a testpiece suggestion for us to look over whenever
