View Suggestion on AnkiHub

If you look at the note for the rods card (1554739939850) it mentions that it contains rhodopsin, why would this card not be able to include the cone counterpart of opsin which is photopsin? @Brian_BH

Thanks for following up.

A few things. As noted in the rationale provided, the formatting of the text wasn’t in keeping with the rest of the card. That alone will prevent its inclusion.

Additionally, being a sentence fragment the statement itself is not sufficiently clear. Without further supporting structure, the suggestion as a whole just looked to my eyes like a poorly-formatted fragment which doesn’t leave a lot of room.

Lastly, the ‘rationale for change’ didn’t leave a lot to work with so given what was visible the suggestion was not accepted.

If you’d like to improve or proof-edit the suggestion I’d be happy to take another look at it though.

Thanks for replying and clarifying! It helped to understand.

Since it is closed I cannot re edit so would I submit another change?

And to confirm: I will change the formatting so that it is not italicized but rather bolded as in the rods card and update the rationale for change so it is more clear why I would like to update the card?

All good.

Yeah, once it’s closed I think I can’t reopen it. If you want to resubmit again I’ll make sure we take another look at it.

Any time we run into formatting issues it makes life hard, because I can’t really fix them on this website so once they’re present I either have to approve it and then fix it manually in Anki and go backward (which is kind of a pain) or usually we just have to turn down the suggestion because the formatting causes so many problems. So anytime we can keep the formatting consistent it makes life easier.

Yeah, I know it’s not always obvious but any help explaining what you’re thinking in the ‘rationale’ box is actually really helpful. On our end all we see is a change to the card and sometimes people only put like a word or two. So I’m left trying to imagine what someone is thinking, and that’s always sort of hard to figure out sometimes. Anytime we know what you’re thinking and why it makes it a lot easier to look at the suggestion and be like “oh, yeah, that makes perfect sense” or “hmm I don’t know if I agree with that but I see where they’re coming from.” Etc., etc.

If it’s as simple as a typo that’s of course very easy. But anything else, it’s really nice to see what someone is thinking and makes it a lot easier to approve the suggestion with a good rationale.

Let me know if that makes sense and if you have any questions.

edit: it’s maybe not important but these are the submission guidelines for the MCAT deck: AnKing MCAT Deck Submission Guidelines

Most of it is common sense, I think, but there are some rules that we have to follow just because there are wayyyyyy more users than deck maintainers so it’s very easy for us to get swamped.

Thank you for your thorough response! It makes a lot of sense now. Any submissions I post from now on will have a much better explanation and proper formatting .

To make life easier for you guys maybe an inclusion of being able to edit the submissions right before posting/approving, at least for formatting, would streamline the process (although people should still be more careful for formatting).

I will resubmit later in the day and I apologize for the changes I’ve requested before that have not had proper formatting. Will read up on the deck guidelines!

Thank you once again and the team for maintaing the deck :raised_hands:
