Only thing with this is there is no order to the “one-by-one” @tod004 ? ie. one-by-one helps with things where there is an order; ie. mnemonics, but this one doesn’t have that.

@Stapedius it does have a mnemonic. I do see one potential benefit of having this as a one by one where if a user forgets the card and sees the 5P’s and then is able to recall the card. I do suppose they should mark it as again but it may be able to reinforce the mnemonic. Although I do agree it is probably better to not have this as a one by one.

Personally I use one-by-one for any list, regardless of order. It’s hard to fit more than 1-2 things in short term memory when you’re old and dumb like me :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s fair - I guess my concern is it’s hard to memorise lists when there is no order (even in this case which is 5Ps) - the aim is to get all 5 answers (the 5Ps), and the one-by-one works best when you learn them in a sequence. If they are not worth memorising in bulk (too hard to learn all 5), then there should be multiple cards splitting them up. Thoughts @sabicool ?

@Stapedius , I agree with you. I see what you mean @tod004, what I can recommend is perhaps just making a protected change to this note on your end @tod004 and turning on the one by one field. Alternatively you can consider using a scratchpad or something to write on to help you with memory recall. I find writing down my answers sometimes helps me retain the information better

I probably agree with @tod004. I don’t see a reason not to make it one-by-one. If people want to remember it all at once they can just click reveal all (or “show answer” once the new note type is released). Additionally this card in particular is definitely in a (loosely) chronological order.

Idk… I feel like you could make that argument about every card that has >1 piece of included information in that case and we could get rid of all normal clozes which I feel would be problematic. At least from how I’ve been using one-by-one, they seem to work best exclusively in the context of ordered lists OR answering multiple pieces of information (like note ID:1694167233876). I’m not sure I agree there’s chronology to the 5Ps in this card (although I do see potentially see this card being turned into that fairly easily given the timeline; pre-post event etc.); I may remember palpitations before precipitant for example because the mnemonic isn’t exactly a word like “DREAD”. And that’s okay, because the aim of the card is to remember the 5Ps in a history taking scenario, not the sequence in one-by-one. The other concern I have is the temptation to memorise based on position which a simple cloze would mitigate. But curious to see this has divided people… might be worth posting a poll on the discord.

Fair enough, this card is like right in the middle of almost having an order. Like Precipitant → Prodrome → Post-event phenomena is ordered. I could be convinced either way about the one-by-one cloze for unordered lists tbh

Interesting point @mrvhyte , I realise that with the new note type being implemented, users can flip to the other side if they want or reveal one by one. I think it’s perhaps a difficult card in that you are expected to recall 5 elements at once instead of one or two. While @Stapedius , I understand that the card is meant to be applied such that you can recall all 5 in one go, but perhaps it’s better to have it as a one by one to give users the option between flipping to the back in one go or revealing one by one seeing as the card is quite difficult. I suppose even if they do memorise it in the order as in the card, it’s not too much of an issue.

@Stapedius new note type will mean that we can have cards such as this be one by one. Users who wish to recall each item individually can do so and other users can just flip to reveal all of the items
