Unfortunately openstax has a few things depicted wrong in the past. hopefully in the future we can get an anking specific illustration for this
Think image is right but entirely confusing lol; looks like they’ve got the vestibular system/nerves flipped (right on left) but the eyes are meant to be right eye on right side (turning head left, so the compensatory motion would be to turn your eyes toward the right to keep them trained on an object). Would love an image that clarifies this better but as is the image is accurate.
I think this has a conventional imaging view, which is seen from the bottom end, like in an MRI
