Suggestion is correct, DKA is a true hyponatremia
Pseudohyponatremia is a lab artifact caused by hyperlipidemia/hyperproteinemia
Agreed
Fee like we jumped the gun on changing this wording without a note - patients do have hyponatremia, but there is also a formula that you have to use to correct serum sodium concentration for hyperglycemia… idk if this phenomenon has a name, but it needs to be mentioned @IantheBFG @DillingerMed @Eli.Tanenbaum @beejumm
I have the formula in my lecture notes and would probably be a good thing to add to extra?
Do you feel like we jumped the gun because while they do have hyponatremia it’s just relative to the hyperglycemia?? So you use formula to see calculated hyponatremia and if treatment is needed or not? (usually it is not)
