Mostly I’ve seen this cited as helping wound healing moreso than preventing pulmonary complications, would like to see something covering the wound complications more specifically before changing

Not much detail, but Amboss says "Cessation of smoking ≥ 4 weeks before surgery has been shown to decrease perioperative morbidity and improve wound healing. Smoking cessation < 4 weeks before surgery has theoretical advantages in improved tissue oxygenation.
