@kevinpanini I was referring to the proximal (not distal) convoluted tubule. The diagram is correct, items in red, designating reabsorption, include NaCl, K, H2O, HCO3-, Glucose, and AAs. The card is stating that potassium is secreted here. I’ve attached a lecture slide for support as well as a screenshot from the PCT wiki page.

While this may be true, much of this information is beyond the scope of the MCAT. MCAT resources like Kaplan and AAMC both support the DUMP the HUNK mnemonic.

Kaplan: The PCT is also the site of secretion for a number of waste products, including hydrogen ions, potassium ions, ammonia, and urea.

When citing sources, please use MCAT-specific sources.

@kevinpanini I was not able to find any reference to current Kaplan or AAMC material supporting this mnemonic; AAMC explicitly does not include mnemonics in its explanations. If we want to be really pedantic about source material, Kahn Academy (outside of direct AAMC answer explanations) is the true source material we should be referencing. I can confirm that in previous editions of Kaplan books the mnemonic was used, but it has since been removed in more recent editions. I get that DUMP the HUNK has been a mnemonic longer than Anking itself, but that does not simply mean we should follow blindly.

KA - Anatomy of the kidney and the nephron

The image, found on the provided link, indicates that K+ is not part of the list of secreted compounds and is in fact on the reabsorption list.

Based on your reply, it seems like you agree with my rationale on scope, so should this card then be deleted outright? Maybe truly simplify? “Isosmotic reabsorption of filtrate occurs in the {{c1::proximal convoluted tubule}}”
