Lol, pardon my tagging you but I wanted to double-check myself and see if I could corroborate against a second set of eyes.
The Extra field for this card currently states “USPSTF no longer has recommendations for lipid screening in adults”, though the linked page does quite seem to have recommendations, stratified by age and risk:
There’s a similar note appended to the Extra field for nid:1580415173868
I tried finding the Slack conversation but to mixed success, and it was bugging me enough that I wanted to do due diligence and double-check with someone. ![]()
I’m wondering if the Extra field text meant to say that "the USPSTF no longer has universal recommendations for lipid screening in adults"? As they clearly do have recommendations for screening, from what I can see.
Or am I being daft and missing something obvious here? ![]()
Hmmm, I’m not sure. I don’t remember this Slack conversation specifically. I do know that there was a shift towards using a CVD risk-based algorithm for statin prescription, but I’m not familiar with the guidelines/recommendations on dyslipidemia screening by the USPSTF or others.
@IantheBFG, care to weigh in?
Sorry for late response, I’ve been focused on ERAS and interviews last few months.
I believe the card is correct. I spent quite a bit of time researching this heavily before making the changes to these cards. I even reached out to USPSTF directly and they emailed me back. Below is screenshot of their email where they said they no longer have recommendations for lipid disorder screening. This was replaced with recommendations on statin use based on ASCVD risk score (which to properly calculate you need lipid labs anyways) but this USPSTF rec is for patients 40 to 75 years who have 1 or more CVD risk factors (i.e. dyslipidemia, diabetes, hypertension, or smoking).
@Brian_BH The screenshot you shared looks like it’s from the USPSTF archived recommendation. Not being daft it is kind of confusing which is why I did such a deep dive into it all. Let me know if my rambling didn’t answer any of your questions or concerns!
