OP is right that this reaction does happen in the cytosol and mitochondria according to AMBOSS. However, on page 76 of FA2024 it only states that the reaction takes place in the cytosol. So for USMLE exam taking purposes, unless there’s a specific QID in UWorld that can be found where knowledge of the reaction taking place in the mitochondria is necessary I’m going to lean reject for this suggestion.
I think at most we could put in the extra section that it also takes place in the mitochondria but given that the fact is not in first aid I think it’s low yield enough that we can avoid having it in the deck entirely and let one bit of the citric acid cycle fade out of our brains for more important info
