AI Chatbot Create suggestion for note

I created the shortcut of F6 to “create suggestion for note” and saved it but doesnt seem to work. Also not sure on how to use this option (Create suggestion for note” without the shortcut? Also, would you also be able to confirm the function of this option, im assuming it uses the AI Chatbot to possibly add information to the current note?

Here’s how that feature works and how to troubleshoot it:

1. What “Create suggestion for note” does

You’re right about the general idea:

  • It sends the current note’s content to the AnkiHub AI Chatbot.
  • The AI then generates a suggested edit / improvement for that note
(e.g., clearer wording, added context, or better formatting), which you can review and apply manually.

It does not automatically change the note; it just creates a suggestion for you to look at.

2. How to use it without a shortcut

Depending on your Anki + AnkiHub version, you should see this roughly as:

  • Open a card in the Editor (browse window or from review → Edit).
  • With that note selected, look for an AnkiHub / AI / Chatbot menu item or right‑click option that says something like:
    • Create suggestion for note
  • Click it; a side panel or popup should open with the AI’s suggestion.

If you don’t see any obvious menu item:

  • Check the AnkiHub add-on menu at the top of Anki (e.g., AnkiHub → AI / Chatbot options).
  • Make sure you’re logged into AnkiHub and that your AI features are enabled in the AnkiHub add-on settings.

3. Fixing the F6 shortcut not working

A few things to check:

  1. Shortcut actually bound to the command

    • Go to Tools → Add-ons → AnkiHub → Config or Settings (or a similar “Shortcuts” section).
    • Confirm that Create suggestion for note is really assigned to F6 (no typos, no extra modifiers).
  2. No conflict with other Anki shortcuts

    • F6 may already be used by another add-on or Anki itself.
    • Temporarily change it to something uncommon like Ctrl+Alt+9 (or Cmd+Opt+9 on Mac) and test again.
  3. Editor is focused on a note

    • Make sure:
      • The Browser is open and a note is selected, or
      • You’re in Review → Edit with the note editor open.
    • Then press your shortcut. If you’re just on the main deck screen, the command usually won’t do anything.
  4. Restart Anki

    • After changing shortcuts in the add‑on config, fully close and reopen Anki to ensure it takes effect.

If you’d like, reply with:

  • Your operating system
  • Your Anki version
  • A screenshot of where you set F6
and I can walk you through exactly where to click and what you should see when it works.

Hello, I’d be happy to help!

You’re referring to this button, right?

This button is used to suggest a change to a note so it can be approved or rejected by the deck maintainers, allowing everyone to get the update. You can follow the tutorial on how to do that here: 📚 AnKing Step Deck Submission Guidelines

If that’s what you’re referring to, it doesn’t really have anything to do with the AI chatbot.
