Potentially could be better but I would just need to find out whether this would be going against copyright.
Is embedding videos like this something we should worry about from a copyright POV or should we stick to just adding hyperlinks of videos rather than embedding them?
I think it’s ok when you embed because you’re linking to the original source and it would require they have an internet connection
Do we want to vote on this in Slack or just keep what we’ve been doing for formatting videos? Also still not sure how to embed
I think I’d prefer having it embedded
Anyone who wants to find the original source always can, it’s up to the uploader to prevent embeds or hide their video
Also saves us an extra click to open up YouTube in a browser
Also watching it in Anki is much better for me personally, i tend to get distracted very easily by the next suggested video haha
That’s fine. I wouldn’t overuse this though. We shouldn’t be watching lots of videos within Anki
Great! If you have a moment would you mind posting about this in slack so we can vote? I could also probably do it this afternoon
We can actually poll on this and see if users prefer embedding videos or just links
My only worry would be cluttering up extra sections when we could just take up a single line with a (easily ignored, if wanted) hyperlink. Think it’s more beneficial to require as little scrolling as possible and would want to use this as sparingly as possible (same goes for hyperlinks to YouTube in general tbh)
Both sides have great arguments, I think leaning towards just hyperlinking might be the way to go tbh. Less clutter and if you are interested, you can go to YouTube
I also prefer hyperlinks for those reasons
Yeah, requiring less scrolling is a fair point
But
I’m thinking like we do ‘embed’ images (x-rays, charts, graphs, etc) and even some gifs into the card, like it’s right there in the card for anyone to view
If the video was a gif, we’d keep the gif itself in, not have a hyperlink to the source it could be found
Based on that and to require less clicks and jumping around, I’d say embedding it at the bottom of the Extra field does seem like a way to require less scrolling for those not interested in seeing it, but also keep all the info in the card itself
I’m okay with whatever we all decide is best
