Cannot sync new anki with anki update on Mac OS Senoma 14.7.5

Hi everyone,
Really hoping I can get some help here as I have been trying to figure this out all day. I downloaded anki 25.02.1 this morning and when I try to log into my ankiweb account, I get
“A network error occured:
Error details: error sending request for url ()”. I know others have ran into this problem before and I made sure my firewall is off and internet is working, but I am still running into this issue. What else can I do?
Thank you

Hi there! Sorry to hear you’re having trouble syncing Anki on your Mac. This seems to be an issue with your connection to AnkiWeb rather than an AnkiHub-specific problem.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the network error:

  1. Check your internet connection - It seems you’ve already done this, but try accessing other websites to confirm it’s working properly.

  2. Allow outbound connections - Even with your firewall off, some network settings might still be blocking Anki. Anki needs to connect to several domains:

  3. Restart Anki and your computer - Sometimes a simple restart can resolve connection issues.

  4. Try a different network - If possible, connect to a different WiFi network or use a mobile hotspot to see if the issue persists.

  5. Check for proxy settings - If your Mac is using a proxy, this might interfere with Anki’s connection.

  6. Temporarily disable any VPN - If you’re using a VPN, try turning it off temporarily.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, you might want to:

  • Post on the Anki forums for more specific help with AnkiWeb syncing issues
  • Try downgrading to a previous version of Anki that worked for you until this issue is resolved

Since this appears to be an issue with AnkiWeb syncing rather than an AnkiHub-specific problem, the main Anki forums might provide more targeted assistance for this particular error.

Hello,

The issue with AnkiWeb itself is most likely related to an Anki bug and not caused by AnkiHub. That said, it’s hard to say exactly what’s going on, since this version of Anki is a new release.

To my knowledge, one thing you can try is downgrading your Anki to the previous version (25.02). Just download version 25.02 from this link (Release 25.02 · ankitects/anki · GitHub) and run the installer the same way you would when updating Anki. The downloads are at the bottom of the page:

I personally ran into a few bugs with the latest version, so I temporarily switched back to 25.02.

Let me know if this solves your problem!

Hi!
Thanks so much for commenting! Unfortunately I have been having this issue with multiple versions of anki, including 25.02. This started after I updated my mac to senoma 14.7.5 to download the latest anki version today. Do you happen to have any advice for why 25.02 is not working?

SInce this is Ankiweb related, you can try on the official Anki forums and see if you get any luck there! https://forums.ankiweb.net/

Thanks for your response! I have tried there and was hoping someone may have an idea here. Hopefully someone in this forum or anki forums can help.
