Hello hello,
I thought I had seen a suggestion/request similar to this in the past but I couldn’t find it when searching.
Request: A method to remove bulk suggestions from sketchy/bootcamp/other third-party resources which just add their images/links/tags.
BLUF: It’s annoying and dissuading for community users to have to scroll through bulk suggestions submitted by third-party resources to find suggestions from other students.
When looking at the Community Suggestions within the AnKing deck on AnkiHub, I would estimate 75%+ of the time multiple pages are full of bulk suggestions just adding more sketchy images or changing links to bootcamp videos. As someone who loves to vote on suggestions and weigh in on benefits/faults of changes, it’s incredibly frustrating to scroll through multiple pages to find one change to the actual text/extra fields and then do it again to find a few more. Half the time I just give up and move on doing something else.
I do want to make clear that I’m not trying to specifically call out Sketchy/Bootcamp with this; they just happen to be the biggest names I see most but this applies to all third-party resource companies who make suggestions to the deck. I am also not trying to minimize their contributions to the AnKing deck. I actually applaud these companies for working with the team and continually submitting updates. However, they do not, at least to me, feel like true “community members” as they do have financial incentives to make these contributions.
I think either removing these suggestions entirely from the main community suggestion feed or adding a way to filter them out would allow students to see and engage better with other suggestions. I believe that this change would lead to a substantial increase in voting and commenting on suggestions. In theory, this could also make maintainers’ jobs easier as less suggestions would sit in purgatory waiting for community voting/feedback.
I’d be happy to discuss more and would love to hear others opinions on this. Thanks!
