Hi all. I’m a PA grad preparing to retake the PANCE in 1mo after failing my 1st attempt. I’m new to Anki and want to optimize my setup. I have major ADHD, so I prefer visual/mnemonic-based learning and need settings that avoid overwhelm.
Current Setup:
AnKing Step Deck: Unsuspended #PANCE tags, showing ~9,999 cards. Is this correct?
Endeavor Overhaul Deck: Showing ~199 cards. Is this right?
Paying for AnkiHub so I can get the updates & not worry about how to make/edit cards.
Questions:
Are my deck setups correct for PANCE prep? Should I adjust the number of cards?
What are the best Anki settings (new cards/day, reviews/day, learning steps, retention rate) for a 1-month PANCE study plan?
Any must-have add-ons to enhance learning speed, especially for visual/mnemonic retention?
There isn’t really a single ‘correct’ or ‘incorrect’ way to set up your decks, really. A lot of it comes down to personal preference, the order in which you’ll encounter the material, etc. I would chance that almost everyone has their decks set up slightly differently, and that’s okay.
But, it looks fine to my eyes. If it works for you, it works.
That really depends entirely on how many cards you have to study, and how much time you have (and how many daily reviews you can manage). Having 9999 new cards is probably likely to be overwhelming, tbh.
If you have a month, that timeframe is likely to dictate a lot of what you’ll have time for, ultimately.
New cards/day: in theory, the number of cards you want to learn divided by the number of days you have to prep.
Reviews/day: really depends on your goals and tolerances. The more the better, in theory, unless you get buried which is obviously not great.
Retention rate: it’s your desired retention rate, so it’s largely up to you. Higher retention rates come at the cost of higher review burdens. For most folks, the default value is about right.
There are so many add-ons out there, it’s hard to keep track of them all tbh.
I’m not aware of any for visual or mnemonic retention, though that doesn’t mean they’re not out there.
For speed, there are a few ‘focus’ add-ons. I haven’t used any of them myself, so I can’t comment too extensively, unfortunately. You might search around a bit or check on Reddit to see if there are any common recommendations in that vein.
Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.
