Split cloze one-by-one into multiple cards

Some one-by-one clozes tests too many things at once and I would like to separate the clozes into multiple cards (i.e. c1, c2, c3, etc).
I would like to keep it this way even after syncing with AnkiHub, which I can do by protecting the text field, but this would also prevent me from receiving any content-related updates of the note.

Would this be possible?

You can just protect the text field as you say or you could just duplicate the card and make a new one?
