Unable to get B&B Videos to play in sidebar

Hello thanks for answering my question in advance.

I have a premium AnkiHub and B&B subscription. When I am reviewing a card and trying to access the B&B video, it doesn’t play within the sidebar, it opens up a new browser window in chrome and plays there (I’m already signed in to B&B on chrome). Is it meant to play within the sidebar? It would be great if it did.

Not sure if it’s already been answered elsewhere, I’m pretty new to this site. Thank you.

Short answer: Right now, that behavior (opening in your browser instead of playing inside the sidebar) is expected, not a bug.

From what I can tell:

  • AnkiHub’s current B&B integration opens the Boards & Beyond video in your web browser (e.g., Chrome) when you click the link in the sidebar.
  • There is no officially supported in‑sidebar video player for B&B at this time, so the video not embedding/playing directly in the sidebar is normal behavior.

So:

  • You’re set up correctly (premium AnkiHub + B&B, logged into Chrome).
  • The card sidebar is essentially giving you a convenient link to the correct B&B video, but playback itself happens in your browser tab.

If you’d like this to change, I’d recommend:

  1. Posting a brief feature request in the :light_bulb: Feature Requests category asking for:
    • “Embedded Boards & Beyond video playback in the AnkiHub sidebar (instead of opening a new tab).”
  2. Mention that you’re a paid B&B + AnkiHub user and why in‑sidebar playback would help your workflow (less context switching, etc.).

If you share your OS (Windows/macOS) and Anki version, I can also suggest any workflow tweaks (e.g., positioning windows, using split-screen) to make opening videos in the browser less disruptive.

The videos are not supposed to be played in the sidebar; redirecting to a browser window is the expected behavior.
