Adding Anking to existing miles down deck

Hello. I apologize if this has been asked before I tried searching but did not find anything. I added anking to my existing miles down deck and I’m wondering if I need to be worried about any duplicate cards or cards from the old deck that carried over that might be out of date. I also have two Orgo and two gen chem decks and I’m confused on how these duplicates happened.

You don’t need to panic, but there are a few things to be careful about when combining decks like this.

1. Duplicates between Milesdown and AnKing MCAT

Milesdown and the AnKing MCAT deck both cover similar content, so it’s normal to end up with:

• Two cards testing the same fact but:
  • Different wording
  • Different note type
  • Different tags

Anki/AnkiHub won’t automatically delete or merge those for you. You have three main options:

1. Keep both and suspend as you go
   • As you study, if you see two cards that feel truly redundant, Edit → Suspend one of them (press J on desktop, or Suspend from the card menu on mobile).
2. Pick a “primary” deck
   • Many people choose AnKing MCAT as their main updatable deck (via AnkiHub) and:
     • Keep Milesdown for now
     • Gradually suspend Milesdown cards that overlap with AnKing MCAT
3. Turn off AnkiHub updates for Milesdown-style cards
   • Subscribe/sync only to AnKing MCAT via AnkiHub
   • Keep other decks as “local” (not on AnkiHub) to avoid future conflicts

In short: yes, duplicates are expected; no, they don’t automatically cause problems. You’ll just see more cards unless you suspend the ones you don’t want.

2. Why you have two Orgo / two Gen Chem decks

From the screenshot, it looks like you have something like:

• MilesDown's MCAT Decks → General Chemistry
• AnKing MCAT Notes Types → General Chemistry (or similar under the AnKing structure)

Common reasons this happens:

• You imported Milesdown first (which created its own subdecks).
• Then you imported AnKing MCAT, which also has its own General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry subdecks.
• Anki treats those as separate because they live in different parent decks / were imported from different packages.

This is completely normal. They are just two different sources for the same subject.

3. Are any cards “out of date” or “carried over wrong”?

• Adding AnKing does not modify your Milesdown cards.
• AnkiHub updates will only affect cards that:
  • Use the AnKing MCAT note types, and
  • Are part of a deck that is subscribed to the AnkiHub AnKing MCAT deck.

So your old Milesdown cards stay as they are. If something is outdated, it will remain that way unless you manually edit/suspend it, or switch to the updated AnKing version.

4. What I’d recommend next (practical plan)

On desktop (if possible; it’s much easier than on mobile):

1. Choose your main deck
   • If you want up‑to‑date, community‑maintained content, use AnKing MCAT as your primary long‑term deck.
2. Rename decks for clarity (optional but helpful)
   • E.g.
     • MilesDown – General Chemistry
     • AnKing – General Chemistry
   • This helps you quickly see which deck a card belongs to.
3. As you study, prune duplicates
   • When you see near-identical cards:
     • Keep the better one (often AnKing),
     • Suspend the other.
4. Don’t delete decks yet
   • Until you’re comfortable, just suspend cards rather than deleting. You can always unsuspend later.

It’s hard to say with any certainty, but I’ll lay out the basic ideas:

• Miledown has existed in various forms across the internet for years. It’s hard to know, with any confidence, which version you have and which changes have been made to that deck.
• Most versions of Miledown will be compatible with the AnKing MCAT deck, which means that the notes share ID’s and duplicates won’t be made. Notes that share a lineage will be updated in place

So:

• If the notes share a lineage, and are present in both decks, they will be updated in place.
• If there are new cards in the AnKing MCAT deck they will be added.
• If there are old cards from Miledown that do not share a lineage, they will remain (AnkiHub does not delete anything in your collection).

It’s hard to know, as it could be for a hundred reasons. But, it is easily enough fixed; you can simply move cards around and organize your local collection as you see fit
