Anki Answer Intervals Are Too Long

Hello. I optimized my FSRS the other day and since that time my review cards have jumped to long intervals, with Again being 10m and Hard being 14d. Not sure how I can bring the interval down. Will attach current settings

I’ll help you understand what’s happening with your intervals after optimizing FSRS. Let me search for some relevant information to address your concern.

FSRS Intervals Issue After Optimization

Hi there! Looking at your screenshots, I can see that after optimizing your FSRS parameters, your review card intervals have increased significantly - with “Again” showing 10 minutes and “Hard” showing 14 days. This is definitely not the expected behavior for review cards.

What’s Happening

When FSRS parameters are optimized, they should better fit your learning patterns, but they shouldn’t cause such extreme jumps in intervals. The “Again” button for review cards should typically reset the card to a relearning state with much shorter intervals, not 10 minutes directly.

How to Fix This

Here are some steps you can take to address this issue:

  1. Reset FSRS Parameters to Default:

    • Go to your deck options
    • In the FSRS parameters text box, delete your current parameters
    • Leave it blank and Anki will use the default parameters
    • This should restore more reasonable intervals
  2. Check “Reschedule cards on change” Option:

    • In the FSRS settings, make sure this is unchecked
    • The Anki manual notes: “activating this option is not recommended when first switching from SM2”
  3. Verify Your Learning Steps:

    • Make sure your learning steps are reasonable (your screenshot shows 1m 10m)
    • For FSRS, it’s recommended to keep learning steps under a day and minimize the number of steps
  4. Wait for More Review Data:

    • If you’ve just started using FSRS, it might need more review data to optimize properly
    • The system requires at least 1,000 reviews for proper optimization

If the Problem Persists

If resetting the parameters doesn’t resolve the issue, you might consider:

  • Temporarily disabling FSRS and switching back to the standard SM-2 scheduler
  • Checking if there are any add-ons interfering with your card scheduling
  • Creating a backup and then using the “Tools → Check Database” option in Anki
