Can someone PLEASE share the default settings for anki review? My intervals got messed and I don't get my usual 10sec-1min-10min-4d any more for new cards and for repeat cards my interval are way far

I’ll help you with your question about Anki’s default review settings. This seems to be about general Anki settings rather than AnkiHub specifically, but I can provide some guidance.

Looking at your screenshot, I can see you’re in the deck options and want to restore the default learning steps and intervals for new cards.

Let me search for relevant information:

Reading: What are AnkiHub's "recommended settings"?

I see you’re looking for the default Anki settings for review intervals, particularly the learning steps. This is actually a general Anki question rather than an AnkiHub-specific question, but I can help you with that.

Default Anki Learning Steps

According to the Anki manual, the default learning steps for new cards are:

  • 1m 10m (1 minute, then 10 minutes)

For graduating interval (when a card leaves the learning phase), the default is:

  • 1 day

For the Easy interval (when you press “Easy” on a new card), the default is:

  • 4 days

The example you mentioned “10sec-1min-10min-4d” is not actually the default Anki setting but might be a custom setting you were using or one that came with a particular deck.

How to Reset Your Settings

You can reset your deck options to default by:

  1. Go to the deck list
  2. Click on the gear icon next to your deck
  3. Click “Options”
  4. At the bottom of the window, click “Restore Defaults”

Alternatively, you can manually set the learning steps:

  1. Go to deck options
  2. Under the “New Cards” tab, find “Learning steps”
  3. Enter: 1m 10m (for the default)
  4. Make sure “Graduating interval” is set to 1 day
  5. Make sure “Easy interval” is set to 4 days

If you’re using AnkiHub decks, they might use recommended settings that are different from the default Anki settings, as seen in this reference post.

Does this help with your issue? Let me know if you need further clarification!

Hi,

The screenshot shows that your new cards are following 1-minute and 10-minute intervals, instead of the 10s 1m 10m 4d steps you’re aiming for.

To better understand the situation, I have a quick question: are you using the FSRS feature? Just below the settings you sent me, there should be FSRS options. Could you tell me if they are active?

If you are NOT using FSRS:

You can fix this by simply replacing your current Learning steps (currently 1m 10m) with 10s 1m 10m 4d. This will apply the correct intervals to all new cards.

If you ARE using FSRS:

FSRS is a new algorithm designed to make your reviews more efficient. When you optimize it, it’s normal for your review intervals to increase. This allows you to maintain your desired retention rate while spending less time reviewing.

However, FSRS doesn’t work well with learning steps longer than one day. If you’re using it, it’s best to use these learning steps: 10s 1m 10m.

A note on Relearning steps: This setting determines the new interval for a card after you get it wrong during a review. You might want to set this to just 10m, since you’ve already learned the card before. However, you can also set these to be the same as your Learning steps if you prefer.

If you’re still unsure about any of this, could you please send me a screenshot of your entire settings page? A screenshot of a review card showing the large intervals would also be very helpful so we can confirm if FSRS is working as expected.

Let me know how it goes and if you have any other questions!

Hey man thank you for getting back to me @MarcosZan
I am still a little unsure about settings. Here is a screenshot of my complete settings. I am just trying to get back to my old days of anki settings. I think my review interval settings got modified becuase i imported a deck with some preset settings in it.

Everything looks normal.

The issue might be that you weren’t using FSRS before, which is now active, as shown in this screenshot.

FSRS is a new and improved algorithm, so we recommend everyone use it. It will make your review intervals more efficient. Most of the time, it will increase them while still maintaining your retention rate.

Here is a great video by AnKing that explains these Anki settings: AnKing Anki Settings Video

However, if you’d really like to revert to the old settings, you just need to disable FSRS.

Then, just keep your learning intervals at 10s 1m 10m 4d. This will set the intervals exactly as they were before.

@MarcosZan
Thank you for checking through my settings, i really appreciate it. I felt very skeptical with how the intervals were looking. I have been using anki since 2020 essentially man. Thank you again!

I’ve used Anki for a long time too, and I was very skeptical about using FSRS at first. But with the right settings and a little bit of trust, it’s amazing! I save so much time now and wouldn’t go back to the older algorithm. So I really recommend learning a little about FSRS; it’s worth it!

But the older algorithm isn’t bad, so see what best suits you!

@MarcosZan
So does this interval look normal/okay to you? This is a brand new card.

Are your settings the same as in the screenshot? If so, that seems normal. The ‘Again’ interval is 10 seconds and the ‘Good’ interval is 1 minute, which matches what’s configured in your learning steps. The ‘Hard’ interval is automatically calculated based on the other two.

The ‘Easy’ interval depends on how the algorithm has adapted to your review patterns. For example, I use FSRS, and my ‘Easy’ interval is usually around 17 days.

One thing to point out is that I’m not entirely sure how Anki behaves with such short learning steps. Intervals of 10s, 1m, and 10m seem really repetitive and close to one another. As mentioned in the video I recommended to you, having just one 10 or 15-minute step is usually enough. I personally use only a 10-minute step. For example, take a look at my intervals for a brand-new card:

All right I think this is fow FSRS is programmed, thanks for double checking, I will trust the algorithm
