New Card Interval Several Days Long

When seeing new cards in the AnKing deck, the initial card interval is several days long. I suspect that has something to do with inadvertently importing some settings when downloading the deck, but I’m not sure how to fix. Below is a screenshot of my deck settings and example of one of my new cards.

Hello,

I would be happy to help.

Your intervals will be controlled by FSRS. There isn’t a way to statically control those intervals, though you can reset FSRS if you like, by clicking the ‘reset’ button here:

Please let me know if that answers your question, and if there’s anything else I can help with.

Does FSRS Ignore the learning step settings? I was under the impression that a new card would follow the learning steps (10m interval below) first before graduating to a review card and getting scheduled by FSRS.

FSRS functions independently of the learning settings (they function alongside each other), by design.

Learning steps necessarily only apply to new cards, though, and with a single learning step FSRS will necessarily take over quite quickly as a result

I apologize if I am misinterpreting your response but it sounds like you are saying that the first review for a new card should indeed follow the learning steps before FSRS takes over. I have another example below, which I believe to be a new card, with an initial interval of 12 days, not 10 minutes.

Yep, it is following the first learning step. Since you only have one learning step (10m), it is using that learning step for ‘again’, which is in keeping with how Anki assigns learning steps:

Since there is only one learning step, Anki has assigned it to the ‘again’ interval and FSRS is otherwise taking over for the remainder. This is by design

If you would like to have learning steps that are different than the ones you’re currently getting, you would want to adjust your learning steps

This video goes over the most recent recommendations for settings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uo-qQvOZDfg

Though you can, of course, adjust them to your liking however you prefer, ultimately

Simiarly, it may be useful to go over learning steps and how they are assigned, which can be gleaned from the Anki manual which I’ve linked here: Deck Options - Anki Manual

Give that a shot, let me know how you fare, and we’ll go from there and hopefully we can get you squared away.

Ah I see now! I wasn’t understanding that the first step gets assigned to the “Again” button.

Thank you very much for your help
