AnkiHub Sync Issue

As evidenced by the influx of new bugs, there appears to be an AnkiHub sync issue where people cannot login, Anki is crashing, and syncing is not working. Unfortunately, AnkiHub overwrote thousands of reviews, which are now appearing as due on my device. It is unclear if AnkiHub has stored backups of previous syncs or if those will be accessible for the bug fix, but for now, it seems like my work has just multiplied by 10x as I re-do all of these reviews which I’ve already done.

It appears others are in this position as well. Unfortunately, I cannot risk this happening again as it will take days to catch back up.

Hello,

Indeed there is an ongoing bug with the servers. Apologies for the syncing issues, and thanks for your patience.

Backups of your collection are made periodically, and automatically, as a native feature within Anki, which are time-stamped for easy categorization.

The first thing/s I would recommend are to look at restoring from one of those backups, which should restore your collection back to the point in time designated by the timestamp. This tutorial can walk you through how to do that: How to Restore From Backup

Second, as a short-term measure I might also suggest you disable the Ankihub add-on for a bit until the server issues have been resolved. This will allow you to still sync your local collection, and cross-sync with other devices, and bypass the Ankihub servers for the moment.

This can be done within Anki by going to Tools - Add-ons, selecting the Ankihub add-on, and selecting ‘toggle enabled.’ This will disable the add-on for the time being.

Once you’ve toggled it disabled, you’ll have to restart Anki (as is the case anytime changes are made within add-ons).

Hopefully those two measures will restore your collection as well as side-step the server issues for the time being.

Let me know if that’s helpful, and if you have any questions, and if there is anything else I can help with at the moment.

Hello,

You can try disabling the AnkiHub add-on and syncing, AnkiHub cannot overwrite your reviews. Were you prompted with this screen?

If so, what button did you click?

You can restore from a backup to get back to your progress: How to Restore From Backup

Will we be emailed an update that the issue has been resolved?

We’ll most likely announce it here: Sync Bug Sync 01/07 - #257 by mayerm

My anki will get frozen past the screen that says it needs to be updated. I have tried restarting my anki near 10 times and it won’t let me progress past this point to even uninstall the add on

Hello,

Are you still experiencing the same issue?

In a pinch, you can start Anki while holding down shift and this will boot Anki in ‘safe mode’ which allows it to start with all add-ons disabled.

From here you can likely delete the Ankihub add-on, restart Anki, and then reinstall the Ankihub add-on again. I believe that this should resolve the issue/s you’re having.

If it’s helpful, the add-on page can be found here (https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1322529746) and the code for the Ankihub add-on is thus: 1322529746

Let me know if that helps, if you have any other questions, and if there is anything else I can help with.
