When you view the equation it looks good, but when you actually do the card it gives a freaky notation.

It appears you’re using the Bionic Reading add-on, or similar?
This is a known conflict with that add-on and the way Anki handles coding for displaying certain equations.
The only real fix that I’m aware of is to turn off, or delete, your Bionic Reading add-on unfortunately.
