Help with Anking Step 1 Subdecks

When organizing my sketchy micro subdeck in Anking V12 Step 1, I noticed the total number of cards in that deck is only 422, but remember reading that many others said it was closer to 1000.

Please advise.

You’re right that people often quote ~1,000 cards for Sketchy Micro in AnKing – the 422 you’re seeing is likely just a subset, not the full count.

A few things to check:

  1. Make sure you’re counting notes, not cards (or vice versa).

    • In the Browser, the number shown in the status bar can be cards or notes depending on the toggle.
    • Sketchy Micro cards can have multiple cloze deletions per note, so:
      • ~400–500 notes can easily become ~800–1,000 cards.
    • Try switching between “Cards” and “Notes” (button near the top of the Browser) and see what each count shows for that deck.
  2. Confirm you’re on the full Sketchy Micro subdeck.

    • In the left sidebar, make sure you’ve selected the entire Sketchy Micro deck within AnKing Overhaul V12 → Step 1 (not a filtered deck or a smaller sub-subdeck).
    • Right‑click that Sketchy Micro deck in the sidebar and choose “Select All” (or click it so only that deck is highlighted), then check the total at the top of the Browser.
  3. Check that no cards are suspended or in a different deck.

    • In the Browser, search: deck:"<your Sketchy Micro deck name>" is:suspended
    • If you see a lot of suspended cards, that will also make the “active” total look smaller.
    • Also search just tag:Sketchy_Micro (or the relevant Sketchy tag) without restricting by deck to see if some cards ended up in a different deck.
  4. Confirm you have the latest AnKing + AnkiHub updates.

    • In AnkiHub (AnKing Step 1 deck page), click “Download/Update” to make sure your local deck is fully synced with the shared deck.
    • Then in Anki, use the AnkiHub add‑on menu → “Sync this deck with AnkiHub” (if available) on the Step 1 deck.
    • After syncing, re-open the Browser and re-check the counts.

If you’re comfortable sharing, you can also post:

  • A screenshot of the left deck tree clearly showing the Sketchy Micro deck you’re using, and
  • A screenshot of the Browser top bar showing whether you’re on “Cards” or “Notes” and the total count.

Based on those, we can tell you very quickly whether 422 is the expected note count for that particular subdeck or if something is missing from your AnkiHub sync.

Hello,

This tag should have more cards. Please reset your local changes and then let me know how many cards are in it.

Good catch following up after Marcos’ reply.

Since that tag should have more cards, the next step is:

  1. Reset local changes for the AnKing Step 1 deck (or the specific Sketchy Micro tag), following this guide:
:backhand_index_pointing_right: How to reset local changes

  2. After you’ve done that, in Anki:

    • Open the Browser.
    • In the left sidebar, click the Step 1 / Sketchy Micro deck (or search for the Sketchy Micro tag, e.g. tag:Sketchy_Micro).
    • Make sure the Browser is set to Cards (not Notes) in the top bar.
    • Check the total number of cards shown.
  3. Reply back in the topic with:

    • The total number of cards after resetting, and
    • Whether you reset the whole Step 1 deck or just that tag.

That will let Marcos (and the team) confirm if your deck is now matching the current AnkiHub version or if there’s still a mismatch that needs further troubleshooting.
