How do I not keep losing my progress?

So I recently merged the milesdown deck with the Anking deck. Every time I accidentally exit out of Anki, I don’t know what happens but it goes back to just the miles down deck and I lose all my progress on the Anking deck. When I exit it says something about the decks not being able to merge?

I get that I can go to browse and restore local changes but how do I make sure to that I don’t lose this progress?
