You can’t directly “undo” a published field change on AnkiHub, but you can safely remove or revert it so that it updates for all subscribers.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Open the deck in Anki (on your computer)

    • Go to Browse → select a note that uses your modified notetype (e.g., your edited AnKing notetype).
    • In the Fields… dialog for that notetype, delete or fix the problematic field:
      • If you want it completely gone: select the field → click Delete.
      • If it was just misconfigured (e.g., wrong name or type): correct the settings instead.
  2. Sync with AnkiWeb first

    • Make sure Anki is fully synced (standard Anki sync) so your local changes are safe.
  3. Update the AnkiHub deck from Anki

    • With the deck open in Anki, go to AnkiHub → Upload / Update Shared Deck (or similar wording in your version).
    • Follow the prompts to push the updated notetype to AnkiHub.
    • This will update the notetype on AnkiHub so that subscribers receive the removal/change of that field.
  4. Subscribers update from AnkiHub

    • Once your updated version is live, subscribers who run AnkiHub → Sync / Update will:
      • Lose that field (if you deleted it), including its contents, or
      • Receive the corrected settings (if you just fixed/renamed it).

Important notes

  • Data loss: If you delete the field, any data users entered in that field will be removed when they sync AnkiHub changes. If you want to preserve user data, consider:

    • Keeping the field but removing it from templates, or
    • Creating a corrected field and later writing a guide to migrate data, then deleting the old one.
  • No “one-click undo”: AnkiHub doesn’t have a snapshot/rollback button for notetype changes. Reverting means editing the notetype in Anki and re‑publishing as a new deck version.

If you can share:

  • The exact field name you added, and
  • Whether you want it gone or just fixed,

I can suggest the safest sequence (e.g., temporary rename vs. hard delete) so you minimize disruption to your subscribers.

There is no such settings. i only have publish styling/template updates, but its not clickable, after deleting the field.

@squeakyarchie What’s the deck/notetype/field name? There is no setting for that, but I can delete it manually.

BTR: The Community Deck

Note type = AnKingOverhaul (BTR: The Community Deck / Archie2002) Field Name = “Marrow”

I deleted the field and its references from the back template. Note that because the note type has the word “AnKing”, AnkiHub will avoid updating the note type if the user has the AnKing Note Types add-on installed (it assumes the note type can be customized using this add-on). Let me know if you want to rename the note types to work around this.

I’ll see if we can improve this so there are no such false matches.

Much thanks!

i used the anking notetypes for my deck for the features like one by one and good text formatting.

i am not aware of what kind of functionality updates Anking note types will have in future.

Ideally i would like to continue receiving anking notetypes updates, unless its just aesthetic updates. And personalised note type customisation through anking notetypes addon.

And i would like the ability to customise the notetype as a deck owner, example changing the Name of fields, so it reflects on my subscribers ends too. while not loosing anking notetype features.

i know it doesnt seem like both are possible together. What are your thoughts on this. Is it possible?

We have this issue tracked.

Yes, this combination is not supported. The note types add-on won’t recognize renamed/modified fields. The only solution currently is to modify the add-on to work properly with your note types and publish your own version on AnkiWeb. We can then modify AnkiHub to recognize the add-on and preserve user customizations in its note types. See the Ankizin add-on for example.
