Inconsistent card number on deck vs when learning

Hello,

why does my anki deck show a large amount of new cards but when i start to study the deck that amount is way smaller. See screenshots. I am afraid I am missing learning any cards? Thank you so much for your help

Hello,

Based on the image you’ve shared there doesn’t appear to be much that’s wrong. But, I will note a couple of things:

Notice here the ‘+XYZ’ number? That is an indication that you have siblings buried (which means that some cards, which are ready to be seen, are being paused for today because of their similarity to other cards that are also slated to be learned today). Sibling burial is a recommended setting, though you can turn it off if you like. I will say that, personally, I leave it on.

But, all that is to say, you’re not missing out on any cards. Any card that was buried today will come back up to be introduced tomorrow, etc. Ultimately, you won’t miss out on any cards, they’ll just be funneled for you so that you don’t see too many similar cards all on the same day.

There are more nuanced details, if you’re interested in the nuts and bolts of it all, but I can confidently reassure you that you’re not missing out on any cards based on what you’ve shared with me.

Please let me know if you have any other questions, or if there’s anything else I can help with.
